I went to a party, Mom…

I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink Mom,
So I had a sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
That I didn’t drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should.
I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right,
The party finally ended,
And the kids drove out of sight.
I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece,
I never knew what was coming Mom,
Something I expected least.
Now I’m lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.
My own blood’s all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
This girl is going to die.
I’m sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high,
Because he chose to drink and drive,
Now I would have to die.
So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives.
Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave,
And when I go to heaven,
Put Daddy’s Girl on my grave.
Someone should have taught him,
That its wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I’d still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter, Mom
I’m getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
And I’m so unprepared.
I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, “I love you, Mom!”
So I love you and good-bye.

This poem means alot and it has touched alot of prople in its time. So hopefully if your here reading it you will take the time to send it to a loved one or maybe just a friend, or someone you know. When you look at something from someone elses perspective it seems to catch more attention. So give them the help you would want if you were in the situation.

Ive heard and read this poem at least 15 times, and every time i cry because this is really happening to someone every single day. If you show this poem to an alcoholic that has done damage like this i hope he/she has a regret for the rest of their life because he isnt just hurting the person he killed, hundreds of others too. This poem really reached my soul.

this is a sad poem yet true. when people decide to drink and drive, they are not hurting theirselves they are hurting the innocent ones. this has happened to me, i was at the movies with my boyfriend and his sister when it happened. after the movie, we were driving home when a car hit us and flipped our car. me and my boyfriend surrvived but his sister didnt the man was drunk and she had to pay for his crime. i dont know y people do it. if u are going to drink, stay there dont drive. but i just wanted to share that RIP Samantha Staubs WE LOVE YOU!!! 7-10-1992-

dude i think this poem can really touch people but the problem is that people don’t really care and the ones that do are the one’s who have lost someone or that are just kind-hearted people….and this could really help people out if they choose to listen to the consequences of their actions….but yet we can’t change their mind for them
    but this is amezing!!!!!!!!!
